Boone Fork Trail with St. Paul's

Boone Fork Trail with St. Paul's

In July of 2006 St. Paul's Parish of Wilkesboro journeyed to Valle Cruces for its annual retreat. Chuck Forester and Bob Laney were elected to lead the adult outdoor activity on Saturday. Unlike Bob and Chuck's Great Adventure a few years earlier, when we were assaulted by a terrible thunderstorm on the top of Grandfather Mountain, this time the weather was nice. We enjoyed a warm and sunny day.

Chuck and I decided to lead the group on Boone Fork Trail in Price Park. The approximately 6 mile round trip follows Boone Fork Creek downhill from Price Lake to intersect with the Mountains to Sea Trail, then on to near the Old Turnpike Road. Then it follows Bee Tree Creek uphill to the top of the ridge where it intersects the Tanawha Trail. From there Boone Fork Trail meanders through the Price Park campground back to the beginning at the Price Park picnic area.

The group was diverse but convivial. Paul and Joyce Anderson are not St. Paul members but they came to visit as my guests. The route is just enough of a trip to give us a good workout and work up our appetites for supper; but not so strenuous as to wear anybody out.

A good time was had by all.
